Westland Lysander
Scale: 1/48

Manufacturer: Airfix
Parts used: Out Of The Box
Main paints used: Tamiya, AK

0:00 To start, we look at the build ahead and plan our build. 4:14 First up, we work on the framework of the fuselage and look at the way we can save time and paint everything together. 15:56 Next, we move over to the spray booth and paint the interior and framework with AK RAF interior green AK RC293. 20:12 Once the paint work is all dry, we drybrush with oils the framework, first with ABT005 Shadow and then with light grey ABT170.

0:00 First up, we use the kit's decal instrument panel and use a lot of settle agents to get them to conform and settle down nicely. 6:14 Next up, it's time to install the cockpit and framework to the fuselage halves together. 10:25 Here we put the tail planes together and then the landing gear. 18:24 With the fuselage drying, we build the wings. 27:01 Next, we put the engine together.

0:00 To start, we put the engine together and paint it with Tamiya XF-85 Rubber black and the Dark Iron MC214 Bufferbles. 5:35 Next, we fill and sand the bad join in front of the cockpit. 13:25 With the seam taken care of, we replace the fasteners with a thin brass tube. 19:35 Last up, we use Airfix's new mask set for the Lysander and mask up all the clear parts.

0:00 To start off, we use the new Airfix Masking set (Doesn't go well) 3:06 Next, we install the wing section and have a few problems getting it to sit right. 10:50 We make a few changes to get the fit and element right. 20:01 With the wing section on and all masked up, we move into the spray booth. Here, we prep the clear parts, first with the interior color and then with black to give a solid look to the framework on the clear parts. 26:08 Next, we put down a coat of VMS primer.

0:00 In the spray booth, we start off with a coat of Sky AK RC290 on the underside of the aircraft. 4:44 Next, we lighten the sky with a drop of white paint added to the sky mix. 10:28 With the Sky coat dry, we next paint a coat of Dark Earth AK RC287. 19:40 We move back to the bench and use the Tac worm method to mask up the brown ready for the green paint next. 28:04 The masking all on, we next spray the green color on AK RC286. 32:33 Next, we lighten the green by adding a drop of yellow to the mix and pick out the centres of the panels.

0:00 First Up, we unmask and see that we have a few areas to redo and touch up. 4:28 Next, we unmask the clear parts and see we have some crazing on the clear part and how we will fix/hide that so it's not very visible. 8:37 Here, we fix and touch up the clear parts. 16:31 Next, we freehand some of the problem areas on the green camo. 23:07 Last up for now, we paint the nose ring manifold on the Lysander and exhaust.

0:00 To start off, it's time to Decal the Lysander. 6:32 Next, we have a look over the model and then mask up the clear parts and put down a Matt coat to seal the decals and give texture for the weathering to come. 13:27 Now it's time for a coat off Flory models Dark dirt wash. This is brushed on and left to dry. 18:50, With the wash totally dry, we remove the excess with a damp cloth. 25:52 Here we put back the decal we lost when removing the wash.
